Health for your homeschool

By , founder of TheHomeschoolingCompany. Reviewed .

Your child checks health claims, works through safety scenarios, and learns when to ask a trusted adult or qualified professional.

A lesson built around your child

A health-literate person can evaluate a claim, recognize uncertainty, communicate boundaries, and know when a qualified professional should be involved.

Lesson
Health Advice Is Also a Source-Checking Problem
Goal
Audit a health claim for source quality, strength of evidence, and safe next steps without turning education into personal medical advice.
Health lesson "Health Advice Is Also a Source-Checking Problem": the lesson opening, its goal, and its project

How a lesson works

  1. A 9-minute reading

This example lesson comes from the unit on health literacy, evidence, and informed decisions. It moves from “A confident claim can still be weak” to “Knowing the boundary is a skill” and builds to one idea: good health decisions combine evidence with context, consent, safety, and the humility to ask for help.

  2. Help inside the reading

Our Always-On Mentor can challenge a weak source or risky conclusion while keeping diagnosis and treatment outside the course. Your child can also highlight any line of “Health Advice Is Also a Source-Checking Problem” to ask about it or ask for a visual, and the mentor offers help on its own when they seem stuck.

  3. A check halfway through

Your child answers “Why does a source audit need to examine who was studied and what outcome was measured?” before reading on, and the Reading Check at the end asks new questions.

Questions parents ask

Where does my child start in Health?

Placement checks your child's current Health skills and sets the first lesson from that result, not from their grade.

How much of the teaching do I do?

None of it. The course explains each new idea and checks how your child uses it, while the mentor answers questions as they work. Every submission is graded as soon as it comes in, so you never grade it yourself.

Can I use the record for high-school planning?

Yes. The subject record holds every graded assignment with its written feedback, ready to export. We generate a transcript from the course records, ready for you to sign.
