Italian for your homeschool

By , founder of TheHomeschoolingCompany. Reviewed .

Your child practices listening, speaking, reading, and writing at a level they can use, then works toward the next language level.

A lesson built around your child

Italian language and culture are not a museum object; they are practiced differently across regions, generations, institutions, and media.

Lesson
A Living Language Has Many Places
Goal
Use authentic Italian sources to investigate a contemporary question and explain regional or social variation without flattening it.
Italian lesson "A Living Language Has Many Places": the lesson opening, its goal, and its project

How a lesson works

  1. A 9-minute reading

This example lesson comes from the unit on community, media, and cultural interpretation. It moves from “Language lives in relationships” to “Culture is not one answer” and builds to one idea: cultural fluency begins when a learner can notice variation without treating difference as error.

  2. Help inside the reading

When a conversation stalls, our Always-On Mentor can help your child find the missing word or phrase and try the exchange again. Your child can also highlight any line of “A Living Language Has Many Places” to ask about it or ask for a visual, and the mentor offers help on its own when they seem stuck.

  3. A check halfway through

Your child answers “Why is regional variation important in a language-and-culture project?” before reading on, and the Reading Check at the end asks new questions.

A project your child hands in

Investigate a contemporary question in Italy and an Italian-speaking community abroad through authentic media and an interview or exchange.

Questions parents ask

Which grades can use this Italian curriculum?

Grades 3 to 12. The skill trees on this page show the units and skills by grade. Placement checks your child's current skills, so the first lesson can sit before or after their grade.

What should my child know before starting?

Starting skills include comfortable reading and writing in English and practicing out loud for a few minutes a day. No prior Italian required. If placement finds a gap, the course starts with those skills.

How much of the teaching do I do?

None of it. The course explains each new idea and checks how your child uses it, while the mentor answers questions as they work. Every submission is graded as soon as it comes in, so you never grade it yourself.

Can I use the record for high-school planning?

Yes. The subject record holds every graded assignment with its written feedback, ready to export. We generate a transcript from the course records, ready for you to sign.
