Homeschool Dual Enrollment in Delaware
Delaware homeschoolers take college courses in high school as visiting high school students at Delaware Technical Community College, with a parent's permission, and the family pays standard tuition and fees.
How college courses work for homeschoolers
Delaware Tech runs two programs for high school students. Its dual enrollment program is a partnership with school districts that builds courses into the high school schedule for juniors and seniors. The visiting high school student program is the route for students who enroll on their own, home schooled students included, and the student handles every step, transportation, and payment.
Courses meet at a Delaware Tech campus or online in the fall, spring, and summer semesters. There is no limit on how many credits a high school student can take. Credits go on a Delaware Tech transcript; the college cannot guarantee another college will accept them.
After graduation, a Delaware homeschooler can apply for the Student Excellence Equals Degree (SEED) scholarship, which pays tuition at Delaware Tech. A homeschooled applicant gives a transcript showing a Delaware address for the homeschool, or without one, an SAT total of at least 1350 or an ACT composite of at least 19.
Before your child can enroll
Parent permission
A homeschooled high school student enrolls with a parent's permission.
College readiness
Before registering, your child shows readiness for college-level work through any one of the multiple measures Delaware Tech accepts.
Enrolling in a college course
First step
Contact the Delaware Tech academic counselor for your campus, then apply choosing "select only courses-campus" and "visiting high school student."
Course and funding limits
A course dropped after the withdrawal deadline can become a failing grade, which lowers the Delaware Tech grade point average and can affect later SEED and financial aid eligibility.
What it costs
Textbooks and other materials are a separate purchase. Federal financial aid and SEED do not cover courses taken while still in high school.
When to apply
Meet with the counselor and finish the readiness step before the registration date on Delaware Tech's academic calendar for the semester.
A homeschool plan alongside college courses
We teach the subjects your teen takes at home and generate the homeschool transcript from that coursework.
$149/month per child after the trial.
