Homeschool Dual Enrollment in Hawaii
Hawaii homeschoolers take college courses through Early Admit at University of Hawaii community colleges, which each set their own age and test rules, and the family pays the costs.
How college courses work for homeschoolers
The University of Hawaii (UH) runs several early admission programs. Early College and Running Start are partnerships with the Department of Education for students attending public and charter high schools. Early Admit is the program open to public, private, and home-schooled students, and a student who completes a course earns college credit.
Two campus examples
Kauai Community College admits home-schooled applicants who are 16 or older and not enrolled in a high school. Leeward Community College admits homeschooled students 14 or older with official SAT scores of 510 or ACT scores of 24, a request for home school early admission form, and a personal statement.
Hawaii does not grant course credits to homeschooled students, so the college transcript is the official record of these courses.
Before your child can enroll
Homeschool notice on file
Your child submits a valid copy of the Department of Education's Form 4140, the homeschool notice.
Health clearances
Because a homeschooled student has no health records at a high school, the college asks for tuberculosis and measles, mumps, and rubella clearances.
Campus age and scores
Your child meets the campus's own minimum age and any test score it requires.
Enrolling in a college course
First step
Contact the admissions and records office at your nearest UH community college and ask for its home-schooled Early Admit requirements.
What it costs
College expenses, including tuition, books, lab fees, and transportation, are the student's responsibility.
When to apply
Submit the UH System Application and every document to the campus before its admission deadline for the semester.
A homeschool plan alongside college courses
We teach the subjects your teen takes at home and generate the homeschool transcript from that coursework.
$149/month per child after the trial.
