Homeschool Dual Enrollment in Indiana
Indiana homeschoolers take college courses by enrolling directly with a college as high school students. Ivy Tech Community College's dual enrollment program is open to them, and regular tuition and fees apply.
How college courses work for homeschoolers
Ivy Tech, the state's community college system, runs two early college programs: dual credit and dual enrollment. Dual enrollment classes meet online or on an Ivy Tech campus, alongside the college's own students, and this is the program Ivy Tech opens to high-school-age homeschool students.
Dual enrollment students may choose from all of Ivy Tech's course offerings. They show readiness for college-level work through the ACT, PSAT, or SAT or through Ivy Tech's own assessment.
The credit appears on the college transcript. Indiana's public colleges and universities may not reject a homeschool graduate, or treat one differently, based only on the fact that the diploma came from a non-accredited nonpublic school.
Before your child can enroll
College readiness
Your child meets the college's readiness measure, such as an ACT, PSAT, or SAT score or the college's placement assessment.
College admission rules
Each college sets its own admission steps for high-school-age students, and the parent who runs the homeschool can sign the enrollment and transcript records it asks for.
Enrolling in a college course
First step
Contact the admissions office at your nearest Ivy Tech campus or other college and ask how it enrolls homeschooled high school students.
Course and funding limits
Homeschooled students are not eligible for the 21st Century Scholars program, Indiana's early-commitment college scholarship.
What it costs
The family pays the college's regular tuition and fees, plus books.
When to apply
Apply and take the readiness assessment before the college's registration date for the term you want.
