Homeschool Dual Enrollment in Kansas
Kansas homeschoolers in grades 10 through 12 can take community and technical college courses while still homeschooling, and career and technical courses carry no tuition while the state's Excel in CTE program is funded.
How college courses work for homeschoolers
The Kansas Board of Regents rule for community and technical colleges, K.A.R. 88-26-3, admits a student enrolled at the 10th, 11th, or 12th grade level in a nonaccredited private secondary school, the category a Kansas homeschool registers under.
Excel in Career Technical Education (Excel in CTE), set out in K.S.A. 72-3810, says secondary students admitted to a career technical course at a community college, technical college, or institute of technology may be charged fees but not tuition, as long as the legislature funds it.
Each university sets its own rules for high school students.
Before your child can enroll
Academic standard
Your child has an ACT or SAT score at or above the national average, or a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 or above, or the college finds your child able to benefit from the course.
Enrolling in a college course
First step
Ask the community or technical college nearest you for its high school enrollment form and which of your child's records it accepts under the Regents rule.
What it costs
For academic courses, the family pays the college's tuition, fees, and books.
When to apply
Enroll before the college's registration date for the semester you want.
A homeschool plan alongside college courses
We teach the subjects your teen takes at home and generate the homeschool transcript from that coursework.
$149/month per child after the trial.
