How Career and College Promise works

Career and College Promise (CCP) is run by the state's community colleges. A student follows a pathway: a College Transfer pathway, whose courses lead toward a university degree, or a Career and Technical Education pathway toward a certificate or diploma.

A homeschooled student applies through the community college, and the courses appear on the college transcript. As your homeschool's chief administrator, you request that transcript and merge its grades into your own.

Students younger than grade 11 face added requirements before they can join a pathway.

Before your child can enroll

  1. College Transfer pathways

A junior or senior has an unweighted cumulative grade point average of at least 2.8, or shows college readiness in English, reading, and mathematics on an approved test.

  2. Career and Technical pathways

A junior or senior meets the same standard, or has a recommendation in place of the grade point average.

Enrolling in a college course

  1. First step

Ask the CCP office at your local community college for its homeschool application and the pathway that fits your teen's plans.

  2. What it costs

Tuition is free for eligible students. Ask the college which fees and books it charges.

  3. When to apply

Each community college sets its own CCP application deadline for each semester, so apply as soon as its window opens.
