Homeschool Dual Enrollment in Utah
Yes, through a public high school. Utah's concurrent enrollment handbook says a home-schooled student becomes eligible by enrolling in a public high school and being counted in its membership, and then pays at most $30 per credit hour.
How homeschoolers reach college courses
Concurrent enrollment courses earn credit toward high school graduation and at a Utah college or technical college at the same time. State law limits the program to public school students, counted in a school's membership, in the high school grades.
The 2025 handbook from the Utah State Board of Education and the Utah System of Higher Education answers the homeschool question directly: a home-schooled student is not eligible alone, but becomes eligible by enrolling in a public high school.
Utah Code 53G-6-702 provides that route. You may dual enroll your child in a public school, and the school counts your child for state funding only for that participation.
Before your child can enroll
Public school enrollment
Your child is dual enrolled in a public high school and counted in its daily membership.
Grade and plan
Your child is in grades 9 through 12 and has a college and career readiness plan on file.
College readiness
Your child meets the college's course requirements, such as ACT scores, prerequisites, or placement tests. Colleges may also ask for indicators such as a 3.0 grade point average.
Enrolling in a college course
First step
Ask your boundary high school how it dual enrolls a homeschooled student for concurrent enrollment courses.
Course and funding limits
A student may earn up to 30 semester hours of concurrent enrollment credit a year under the program. Credits beyond 30 are outside the program, and the student pays tuition and fees.
What it costs
Colleges may charge partial tuition of no more than $30 per credit hour, $10 for a course taught at a high school, $15 for a course by video, and $5 for a student who qualifies for free or reduced-price lunch. A one-time program fee and a one-time application fee may also apply.
When to apply
Arrange dual enrollment with the high school before its registration for the term, since courses follow the high school schedule.
