Homeschool benefits: Cordova City School District

Cordova Correspondence School, Cordova School District's homeschool program, reimburses up to $2,000 a year for a student taking four or more courses, with smaller amounts for fewer courses. Students who live in the Cordova City School District boundaries and are 5 by September 1 qualify; enrolling by September 30 gets the full amount.

Who qualifies

  1. Lives in Cordova School District

The program accepts students who live within the Cordova City School District boundaries.

  2. Is 5 by September 1

Your child must be at least five years old by September 1 of the school year.

  3. Takes mostly core courses

At least half of the courses through the program must be core subjects such as English, math, science, social studies, technology, or world languages.

  4. Has an approved ILP

Each course needs an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) approved by the coordinator before any purchase can be reimbursed.

What it is worth

The 2025-2026 Cordova Correspondence School Handbook, the most recent one posted, sets the allotment by course count.

Students who enroll after September 30 get a prorated amount based on enrollment date, and the handbook says to ask the coordinator for the exact figure.

From enrolling to reimbursement

  1. By September 30

    Apply and plan courses

Read the handbook, then submit the enrollment application and an ILP for each course to the coordinator, in person, by mail, or by email to your child's principal.

  2. After ILP approval

    Buy curriculum

The coordinator tells you when the ILP is approved. You pay for items yourself, choosing from the approved curriculum list.

  3. During the year

    Request reimbursement

Turn in the ILP Reimbursement Request Form with original receipts. Price tags, estimates, and gift card receipts are not accepted.

  4. By May 10

    Final requests

Reimbursement requests are accepted until May 10. Unused allotment does not roll over to the next year.

  5. Each quarter

    Send grades and work samples

Keep monthly contact with the coordinator and submit work samples and grades at the end of each quarter.

Questions parents ask

Can we buy from a religious publisher?
Yes, if the materials are on the approved list. Approved curriculum can be bought from public, private, or religious organizations, and district staff may not advocate religious doctrine.
Do we keep what we buy?
No. Items bought with the allotment are district property. When your child leaves the program, return non-consumable items or buy them from the district within 30 days.
Is the 2026-27 amount the same?
Not confirmed yet. The posted handbook covers 2025-2026 and the site says to use the current year's handbook, so ask the coordinator to confirm the 2026-27 amounts.
