Homeschool benefits: Haines Borough School District
Haines Homeschool, the Haines Borough School District's correspondence program, gives each K-12 student a $3,100 yearly allotment plus a district iPad or laptop and two free classes at Haines School. Students who live in the Haines Borough qualify; enrolling after the first quarter cuts the allotment in half.
Who qualifies
Lives in the Haines Borough
The program is only for Haines Borough residents and is not a statewide correspondence school. Students need to spend most of the school year in Haines.
Takes four homeschool courses
Students must enroll in at least four homeschool courses to be eligible.
Writes an ILP
You complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) with the homeschool coordinator before any allotment is paid out.
Stays in contact
Families keep quarterly contact with the coordinator and turn in progress reports and work samples, or they can be exited from the program.

Good to know
Haines Borough families get the allotment by enrolling
If you live in the Haines Borough, enrolling your child in the district's homeschool program brings the $3,100 allotment while you stay the primary teacher.
Your child can take classes at Haines School
Two classes are free of any allotment deduction. High school students can take up to three, with each extra one-credit class costing $300 from the allotment; K-5 students take electives only.
The allotment cannot buy religious curriculum
State rules bar the district from buying or reimbursing materials that teach religious dogma, though you can use your own materials at home.
Who to contact
The coordinator approves ILPs and purchases and answers enrollment questions.
