Homeschool benefits: Yakutat School District
LEAD Correspondence, the Yakutat School District's homeschool program, gives your K-12 student a yearly allotment for curriculum and materials you choose, a certified teacher to help plan courses, and eligibility for district athletics and music programs. Enrollment is open to school-age students in grades K-12, and the learning plan must be in place by October 1.
Who qualifies
Is school age
Open enrollment covers students in grades K-12 who are 5 before September 1, under 20, and have not finished 12th grade.
Enrolls before the October count
Full funding requires enrolling before the October count period. Allotments may be prorated during the count, and students who enroll after it get no allotment and no computer or internet benefits.
Takes four LEAD courses
Full time means at least four courses (8 semester classes) with LEAD, including at least two core classes. At least half of a correspondence student's coursework must be core courses.
Has an approved ILP
You build an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) with the contact teacher and enter it in the BrightWays Learning portal. Only materials aligned to the ILP are reimbursed.

Good to know
Your child enrolls as a district student
LEAD is a public correspondence program for families who want to teach with methods and materials of their choice, so your child enrolls as a Yakutat School District correspondence student and you teach at home under an ILP.
The website does not list the allotment
The handbook posted on the website, from the 2020-21 school year, listed full-time allotments of $2,000 for K-2, $2,500 for grades 3-8, and $3,000 for grades 9-12 and said amounts may change with state funding, so call 907-784-3317 for this year's figures.
Who to contact
The LEAD office at the Yakutat School District handles registration, ILPs, and allotment questions.
