Homeschool benefits and savings in the Yuba Community College District
Yuba College waives tuition and fees, including the $46-per-unit enrollment fee and the $10 health fee, for dual enrollment students taking up to 15 units, which is worth up to $690 a term. Homeschooled students who have finished 8th grade qualify by sending a grade equivalency certification and a copy of the family's affidavit along with the dual enrollment request form.
Who qualifies
Finished 8th grade
Your student must complete 8th grade before the term starts and is admitted as a special part-time student. English and math courses require completion of 10th grade.
Shows grade equivalency
Charter and homeschool students present a grade equivalency certification documenting the grade level they have reached.
Sends the affidavit
Include a copy of the affidavit you submitted to the State or County Office of Education to show your student is in an educational program.
Parent signs and verifies
A parent signs the authorization on the request form and verifies that the college course will not interfere with your student's basic high school coursework.

Homeschool rules and statewide help in California
For the home-based private-school pathway, file the Private School Affidavit during the October 1–15 annual filing period. New schools may use the online filing system during its separate August 1–June 30 opening window. Other legal pathways have their own rules.
California sets these rules:
- Subjects: The private-school pathway must provide instruction in English in the branches of study required for public schools; the parent chooses the materials and course sequence.
- Testing: California does not impose a statewide standardized-testing requirement on private-school students.
- Records: Private schools must keep the records required by California law, including attendance and faculty information.
- Teachers: Private-school instructors must be capable of teaching; California does not issue a separate homeschool-parent credential.

Questions parents ask
- Can my student take a Yuba College PE class?
- No. Dual enrollment students cannot take physical education or kinesiology courses, and every course must be college level, numbered 1-99 or C1000-1399.
- How early can my student register?
- On the first dual enrollment registration day, if you turn in the request form during pre-registration. Dual enrollment students have the lowest registration priority, so popular sections may fill first.
- Can I talk to the instructor about my student's grades?
- No. Yuba College treats dual enrollment students as adults, and parents discuss progress with their student rather than with instructors or college staff.
