Homeschool benefits: Lewis-Palmer School District 38
Lewis-Palmer School District 38's Home School Enrichment Academy (HSEA) gives homeschooled students in grades K-12 a free full day of music, art, PE, drama, and electives once a week: Thursdays for K-5 and Wednesdays for grades 6-12. The district is enrolling for 2026-27 now, and you file an annual notice of intent to homeschool.
Who qualifies
Homeschools in grades K-12
HSEA is built to support families of homeschooled students from kindergarten through 12th grade.
Files a notice of intent
Submit the Notice of Intent to Home School (NOI) with enrollment to meet Colorado's annual notification requirement.
Has no other state-funded enrollment
Because state education funds pay for HSEA, your student cannot be dually enrolled in another program or school that also receives state education funds.
Lives in or choice enrolls
Families inside Lewis-Palmer boundaries enroll online. A choice enrollment application is needed only if your student lives outside the district.

Homeschool rules and statewide help in Colorado
Give written notice to a Colorado school district 14 days before starting and each year the program continues. Notice is not required before age 6; instruction need not begin until age 7 or continue after age 16.
Colorado sets these rules:
- Subjects: Provide at least 172 days of instruction averaging four instructional contact hours daily, covering reading, writing, speaking, mathematics, history, civics, literature, science, and regular instruction in the U.S. Constitution.
- Testing: Academic evaluation in grades 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11: standardized test or evaluation by a qualified person.
- Records: Permanently keep attendance, test or evaluation results, and required immunization records; produce them on 14 days’ written notice when the superintendent has probable cause to believe the program is noncompliant.
- Teachers: Instruction is provided by a parent or legal guardian, or an adult relative designated by the parent; no teaching license is required.

Questions parents ask
- Can a student with an IEP enroll in HSEA?
- Ask first.
- Can my child also take a state-funded online program?
- No. HSEA students may not be dually enrolled in other programs or schools that receive state education funds.
- We live outside Lewis-Palmer. Can we enroll?
- Yes, through choice enrollment. Fill out the choice enrollment application on the district's Choice Enrollment page in addition to the online enrollment.
Turn support into your child’s next lesson
Local classes cover the subjects they offer. We teach the remaining subjects, so a local class can stay part of the year without becoming the whole curriculum.
$149/month per child after the trial.
