Homeschool benefits: Central Georgia Technical College
Georgia Dual Enrollment pays tuition, fees, and textbooks for approved Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) courses, up to 30 credit hours, worth $3,210 in tuition alone at the 2026-27 Georgia resident rate. Homeschooled students in grades 10-12 qualify once the parent sets up a home study program in GAfutures and the student meets CGTC's placement scores.
Who qualifies
In a Georgia home study program
You, as the home study official, create a GAfutures Education Professional account for your home study program and give your student its home study program (HSP) number.
In grade 10, 11, or 12
Ninth graders cannot receive funding. Tenth graders are funded for technical and Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) courses, with few exceptions.
Meets placement scores
Degree-level classes need SAT or PSAT scores of 17 reading, 17 writing, and 21 math, ACT scores of 16 reading, 14 English, and 17 math, or qualifying ACCUPLACER scores. Technical program minimums vary.
Keeps making progress
Your student must hold a 2.0 GPA and pass at least 67% of attempted coursework to stay funded each term.
What it is worth
CGTC's Fall 2026 to Summer 2027 schedule charges Georgia residents $107 per credit hour plus $450 in required fees each semester.
- One class (3 hours) plus required fees
- $771
- Two classes (6 hours) plus required fees
- $1,092
- Full semester (15 hours) plus required fees
- $2,055
- Tuition for the full 30-hour cap
- $3,210
Retaking a course is not funded, and a student who withdraws from more than two courses loses funding, so plan the course load with the coordinator.
From applying to keeping it
- Before you apply
Set up the home study account
Create your GAfutures Education Professional account, get the HSP number, and share it with your student.
- Admission
Apply to CGTC
Your student applies online or emails the paper application to highschool@centralgatech.edu, then submits placement scores or takes the ACCUPLACER at a CGTC campus.
- Each academic year
File the funding application
Your student completes the Dual Enrollment funding application on GAfutures with your approval and selects your home study program as the high school.
- Each semester
Approve the courses
You approve your student's courses in GAfutures every semester so the funding applies.
- After 30 hours
Pay tuition yourself
Once the 30-hour cap is used, your student is responsible for tuition.
What it pays for
Covered
- Tuition
- Mandatory fees
- Textbooks
Not covered
- Credits beyond the 30-hour cap
- Course retakes
- Courses after a third withdrawal
- Ninth-grade courses
Dual Enrollment funds approved courses, and degree-level hours do not count against your student's future HOPE hours cap.

Homeschool rules and statewide help in Georgia
You must submit the Declaration of Intent within 30 days after establishing the home study program, then by September 1 each subsequent year.
Georgia sets these rules:
- Subjects: Teach reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science, for the equivalent of 180 school days each year with at least 4.5 hours per day.
- Testing: Use an appropriate nationally standardized test at least every three years beginning at the end of grade 3, administered in consultation with a person trained in norm-referenced testing. Retain the scores and assessment records.
- Records: The instructor writes an annual progress assessment for each student in each required subject. Keep these reports for at least three years and retain standardized-test scores and assessment records.
- Teachers: The teaching parent needs a high school diploma or GED in Georgia.
Georgia also has an education savings account that home-educated students can use.
- The Georgia Promise Scholarship pays up to $6,500 for 2026-27, but your child usually must have attended an eligible Georgia public school for two semesters, or be entering kindergarten, and withdraw before it is funded. It does not pay for a homeschool you already run.

Questions parents ask
- Can my 9th grader take Dual Enrollment courses at CGTC?
- Yes, but without funding. Ninth graders may enroll and pay the cost themselves.
- What does our family still pay for Dual Enrollment at CGTC?
- Tuition for any hours past the 30-hour cap, any course your student retakes, and courses after more than two withdrawals. If your student does not file the funding application, you pay tuition, fees, and books.
- When are the application deadlines?
- CGTC's page does not list term deadlines for homeschool students. Ask the homeschool coordinator at 478-218-3767 which application and funding dates apply to the term your student wants.
- Will CGTC credit count for our homeschool transcript?
- That is your decision. CGTC says whether college credit counts as high school credit depends on the student's school system, so as a home study program you decide how to record it on the transcript you issue.
