Homeschool benefits: Pocatello School District 25
Under Policy 8102, Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 lets your homeschooled child enroll in one or more public school courses for less than 150 minutes a day while you teach the rest at home. You start at the Education Service Center District Office, where the Director of Elementary or Secondary Education completes intake and refers your child to a school.
Who qualifies
Homeschools the rest of the day
A part-time non-public homeschooled student takes district courses adding up to less than 150 minutes a day and gets the rest of their education at home or in another non-public setting.
Is not in another public program
You and your child attest that your child is not a student in any other public school program, including a home-based virtual public charter school, which the policy treats differently.
Is not under expulsion
Every applicant attests that they are not under expulsion from any school, in Idaho or elsewhere.
Fits in the class
The requested class cannot exceed the district's class size guidelines or its equipment and workstation capacity.
What part-time enrollment gives you
Policy 8102 sorts students by minutes per day, following the Idaho rule IDAPA 08.02.01.250.03.
- Part-time homeschooled student
- Under 150 minutes
- Half-time student
- 150 minutes or more
- Full-time student
- 240 minutes or more
- Transportation
- Parent, unless a bus has room
- Athletics
- Under IHSAA rules
The district must be able to get state funding for the time your child attends, so ask the Director during intake whether the course you want qualifies.
How to enroll part time
- Before the term
Contact the district office
Call the Education Service Center at 208-232-3563 to meet the Director of Elementary or Secondary Education, depending on your child's grade.
- At intake
Confirm status and placement
The Director confirms your child is homeschooled, checks grade placement, and covers standardized testing, IDEA, Section 504, athletics eligibility, and how credits are recorded.
- After intake
Pick classes at the school
The Director sends a written referral to the school, where you choose classes with the administration, elementary secretary, or secondary registrar.
- During enrollment
Keep attendance up
Your child arrives right before class and leaves right after. Poor attendance can lead the district to deny later course requests.
What it includes
Included
- One or more public school courses
- Athletics under Idaho High School Activities Association rules
- Bus rides when an existing route has space
Not included
- Guaranteed transportation
- Time on campus outside class
- Students in another public school program
Good to know
A virtual public charter is not homeschooling
A home-based virtual public charter counts as a public school program, so your child would be a public dual enrolled student, and the district would bill the charter for its share of funding.
Who to contact about part-time enrollment
The district office at 3115 Pole Line Rd, Pocatello, connects you with the Director of Elementary or Secondary Education, who handles all part-time homeschool enrollment.

Questions parents ask
- Can my child play Pocatello high school sports?
- Yes, if your child meets the Idaho High School Activities Association (IHSAA) guidelines. The Director reviews those rules with you, the activity sponsor, and your child at intake.
- Can my child graduate from a district high school?
- Only by meeting every graduation requirement the Board of Trustees sets for the district.
- What if the class we want is full?
- Enrollment cannot push a class past the district's size guidelines. The Director can suggest other placements when a class is at capacity.
Turn support into your child’s next lesson
Local classes cover the subjects they offer. We teach the remaining subjects, so a local class can stay part of the year without becoming the whole curriculum.
$149/month per child after the trial.
