Homeschool benefits: Lafayette Parish School System
Lafayette Parish School System opens its summer school to homeschooled students for a fee: in 2026, $250 for one subject or $500 for two in grades 6-8, and $350 for one high school credit in grades 9-12. The 2026 session ran June 1-26 and has ended; the district has not posted summer 2027 dates or tuition yet.
Who qualifies
Homeschooled in grades 6-12
The district's non-LPSS summer programs are for non-public, private, and homeschooled students in grades 6-8 and 9-12.

Bring a current report card, a signed letter naming the summer course or courses your student must complete to remove deficiencies, and an IAP or IEP if your student has one.
Pays by credit card
Tuition is paid by credit card at registration, and card payments carry a service charge.

Homeschool rules and statewide help in Louisiana
BESE-approved home study: apply through LDOE within 15 days of starting; renew by October 1 or within 12 months of approval, whichever is later, or when advancing a grade. Nonpublic school not seeking approval: report enrollment annually as of the 30th school day; notify the previous public school within 10 days of enrollment when transferring.
Louisiana sets these rules:
- Subjects: Both routes require a 180-day school session. BESE-approved home study must provide sustained instruction at least equal in quality to public schools at the same grade; the nonpublic route does not require state curriculum approval.
- Testing: No mandatory state standardized test. BESE home-study renewal accepts a curriculum packet, qualifying standardized scores, or a grade-qualified certified teacher’s statement. The nonpublic route does not submit renewal test scores.
- Records: BESE home-study renewal requires evidence through the curriculum-packet, test-score, or teacher-statement option. For the nonpublic route, maintain attendance records and applicable immunization or exemption documentation.
- Teachers: BESE home-study parents or tutors need no teaching certification. An unfunded nonpublic school sets its own instructional-staff requirements.

Questions parents ask
- Is Lafayette summer school open now?
- No. The 2026 session ran June 1-26 with June 19 off, and as of October 12, 2026 the district has not posted 2027 dates or tuition.
- Which high school courses were offered?
- In 2026, one-credit courses included English I-IV, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Precalculus, Civics, U.S. History, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
- Can we get our money back if plans change?
- Not after your student is assigned a class and a teacher is hired, because the district gives no tuition refunds from that point.
- Does the district run buses for homeschooled students?
- No, not that the district lists. The summer page lists bus pickup sites only for LPSS students, so plan your own transportation or ask Student Services.
Turn support into your child’s next lesson
Local classes cover the subjects they offer. We teach the remaining subjects, so a local class can stay part of the year without becoming the whole curriculum.
