Homeschool benefits through Prince George's Community College homeschool concurrent enrollment

Prince George's Community College (PGCC) concurrent enrollment lets homeschooled juniors and seniors take college classes for credit, and Maryland residents get 50% off tuition: a 3-credit class costs a county resident $178.50 in tuition instead of $357. Your student needs at least a 2.6 unweighted GPA.

Who qualifies

  1. Is a junior or senior

Concurrent enrollment is for private, homeschooled, and non-Prince George's County Maryland 11th and 12th graders. Younger students in grades 8-10 can only enter through the Talented and Gifted route.

  2. Has a 2.6 GPA

Your student needs an unweighted cumulative high school GPA of at least 2.6, so have a homeschool transcript ready.

  3. Meets course placement rules

Some courses require placement through GPA, Accuplacer, SAT, or ACT scores before your student can register.

  4. Lives in Maryland for the discount

The 50% tuition discount goes to eligible Maryland residents. Out-of-state students can enroll but the page does not offer them the discount.

What it is worth

PGCC charges $119 per credit hour for county residents and $214 for other Maryland residents in fall 2026, plus a $47 per credit instructional service fee and a $25 registration fee each semester.

The discount is stated for tuition only, and textbooks are listed as paid only for public-school dual enrollment students, so ask admissions whether any fees are reduced for concurrent students.

From applying to keeping it

  1. Before you apply

    Prepare a transcript

Make sure your student's homeschool record shows an unweighted cumulative GPA of 2.6 or higher, and plan for placement testing if the course needs it.

  2. By the term deadline

    Apply online

Submit the PGCC application with its required supplemental items. Deadlines are December 18, 2026 for spring 2027, April 16, 2027 for summer, and July 16, 2027 for fall.

  3. Each term

    Register and pay

Pay the discounted tuition plus fees for each class your student takes.

Questions parents ask

We live outside Prince George's County. Do we still get the discount?
Yes, if you live in Maryland. Concurrent enrollment is open to residents of other Maryland counties, though their tuition rate is $214 per credit before the 50% discount.
Can my 9th grader start early?
Only through the Talented and Gifted program, which takes students in grades 8-10 who have a talented-and-gifted designation from the past year and an unweighted GPA of at least 3.0.
Does the discount cover books and fees?
No, as far as the page says. It promises a 50% tuition discount only, so plan to pay the $47 per credit instructional service fee, the $25 registration fee, and textbooks unless admissions tells you otherwise.
