Homeschool benefits and savings in Boone County and Booneville
Northeast Mississippi Community College charges dual enrollment students $50 per course for Mississippi residents in 2026-27, compared with $191.50 per credit hour at the regular part-time rate. The discount covers your student's first 15 credit hours, and homeschoolers apply with a notarized parent transcript and your written recommendation.
Who qualifies
Is a junior or senior
Academic dual enrollment needs junior or senior standing and a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Career and technical courses need sophomore standing and a 2.0 GPA.
Sends a notarized transcript
As the parent, guardian, or custodian, you prepare the transcript, then sign, date, and notarize it.
Has your written recommendation
A homeschooled student submits a written recommendation from the parent, legal guardian, or legal custodian instead of a principal's letter.

Homeschool rules and statewide help in Mississippi
You must file the annual Certificate of Enrollment with the local school attendance officer by August 15. A child enrolled in public school within the first 15 calendar days of the school year may transfer to a legitimate homeschool later and file then.
Mississippi sets these rules:
- Subjects: No state-prescribed curriculum, but the child must receive a legitimate home instruction program rather than one established to evade compulsory attendance.
- Testing: Mississippi does not require standardized testing for homeschoolers.
- Records: No mandated homeschool portfolio. MDE recommends keeping the enrollment certificate, work samples, assessment results, and a materials log.
- Teachers: No state degree or teaching-license requirement for homeschool parents.
