Homeschool rules and statewide help in Nebraska

You must file the annual exempt-school election and assurances with NDE by July 15. For a midyear start, file promptly and begin after NDE receives it. NDE advises waiting for that receipt before withdrawing. Include identity documents in your first filing. Report address and enrollment changes. An active abuse-investigation notice blocks withdrawal and new elections for 14 days after receipt or until further agency notice, whichever comes first.

Questions parents ask

Does the Homeschool Card's 100-item limit apply to DVDs and new books too?
No. All other regular circulation rules apply to Homeschool Cards, so the per-card limits still hold: 10 new or recent items, 5 DVDs, and 5 audiobooks on CD at a time.
We live outside Fremont. What does a Homeschool Card cost?
$45 for a 12-month nonresident homeschool card. Fremont's 2026 fee schedule also lists $25 for six months and $20 for three months.
What happens if we lose or damage a book?
The parent who holds the card pays for it. Fremont's 2026 fee schedule charges for the item plus an additional $6 processing fee per item.
Is this policy still current?
It may have changed. The most recent policy manual Fremont has posted is from 2021, so ask the library at 402-727-2694 to confirm the Homeschool Card terms when you sign up.
