Homeschool rules and statewide help in Nevada
You must file a notice of intent and an educational plan with the resident district superintendent before starting, or within 10 days of formal public-school withdrawal or 30 days of establishing Nevada residency. Refile within 30 days of a parent or child name/address change; no annual renewal is required.
Nevada sets these rules:
- Subjects: Prepare an age-appropriate plan in English language arts, math, science, and social studies, including history, geography, economics, and government. Each subject need not be taught every year.
- Testing: Nevada does not require standardized testing for homeschoolers.
- Records: Keep the educational plan and proof of your child’s identity available if a court requires them. Nevada does not prescribe an annual portfolio or attendance report.
- Teachers: No state teaching-license or degree requirement for homeschool parents.

Questions parents ask
- Can a homeschooled child get Reno fee assistance?
- Yes. Eligibility depends on household income and size, and the page sets no school enrollment rule, so a homeschool family applies like any other.
- What about a Reno recreation center membership?
- Memberships have their own RecConnect sliding scale, which takes 20% to 80% off and is applied in person at a recreation facility. The fee assistance page lists only camps, before- and after-school programs, and qualified classes.
- Can a homeschool family get the RecConnect discount?
- Yes. The discount depends on household size and income, and the page sets no school enrollment rule, so your homeschooled children can join on your membership.
- Do I pay separately for each child's RecConnect membership?
- Not by the price table, which lists one Child(ren) rate rather than a price per child. Households also pay no additional fees after four people.
Turn support into your child’s next lesson
Camps and local activities give your child new interests to explore. Their discoveries can shape the examples and questions they study at home.
