Homeschool benefits and savings in Springfield
A Willamalane General Scholarship pays up to 50% of the fee for eligible Willamalane Park and Recreation District programs, up to $200 per person each fiscal year (July 1 to June 30). Anyone who lives inside the district and shows current enrollment in a program such as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), WIC (Women, Infants, and Children), or the Oregon Health Plan, or describes a financial hardship, can apply; there is no school requirement.
Who qualifies

Homeschool rules and statewide help in Oregon
You must notify your local Education Service District (ESD) within 10 days of withdrawing from school, or of the school year's start if not withdrawing. You must notify the ESD if you leave your school district or stop homeschooling. After a move to a new ESD, notify the new ESD within 10 days.
Oregon sets these rules:
- Subjects: Oregon does not require specific subjects or a particular curriculum.
- Testing: Use an approved standardized test by August 15 after grades 3, 5, 8, and 10, subject to the initial 18-month testing grace period and disability-plan alternatives. Interscholastic participants meet annual testing or district-adopted alternative academic-evidence requirements, which may include an approved portfolio or work sample.
- Records: Keep test results and submit them to the Education Service District when requested. Retaining the ESD notification acknowledgment is also recommended.
- Teachers: Oregon does not require a teaching certificate or degree to homeschool your own child.

Questions parents ask
- Does each of my children get $200 from a Willamalane scholarship?
- Yes, if each is listed on the approved application, up to $200 per fiscal year. One child's unused amount cannot be moved to another.
- We do not use any assistance program. Can we still get a Willamalane scholarship?
- Yes. Choose Other Hardship on the application and describe your situation in writing for the scholarship team to review.
- Does approval guarantee my child a place in a class?
- No. Approval lets you register at the reduced rate, and only a confirmed registration secures the spot.
- Can the scholarship pay for a 1Pass?
- Not the General Scholarship. Apply for the separate 1Pass Scholarship, and note that approval does not guarantee a 1Pass will be available to buy.
