Homeschool benefits: Fort Worth Independent School District
Fort Worth Independent School District accepts Child Find referrals for homeschooled students ages 5-21 who live within district boundaries. Evaluation can lead to special-education eligibility and a service plan or individualized education plan, depending on the schooling arrangement.
Who qualifies

Homeschool rules and statewide help in Texas
You do not have to file a homeschool notice to the state.
Texas sets these rules:
- Subjects: Instruction in Texas must include reading, spelling, grammar, math, and good citizenship.
- Testing: No routine annual homeschool standardized test is required. UIL participation and public-school transfer can have separate testing requirements.
- Records: Texas does not require homeschool records, but keeping them is recommended.
- Teachers: Texas does not require homeschool parents to hold a teaching certificate.
Texas also has an education savings account that home-educated students can use.
- The Texas Education Freedom Account (TEFA) awards $2,000 a year to selected home-education students for approved expenses. Applications for 2026-27 closed March 31, 2026; families who missed that cycle can join the 2027-28 interest list.

Questions parents ask
- Who participates in the Fort Worth ISD evaluation?
- A multidisciplinary team assesses your child. The district lists educational diagnosticians or psychologists, special educators, parents, related-service providers and relevant medical information.
- Does a disability diagnosis alone establish eligibility?
- No. Fort Worth ISD says your child must also need special education and related services because of the disability.
- Can my child keep learning at home?
- Yes. The district plans services for a child whose parent keeps them at home as well as for one who enrolls, though the Child Find page promises no specific service hours or therapy.
