Homeschool benefits and savings in Baytown
Lee College in Baytown charges dual credit students $60.10 per semester credit hour for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027, about $180 for a three-hour class, instead of the regular $59 an hour plus fees. Homeschooled high school students qualify by showing proof of their homeschool program and a high school transcript, and they meet the same requirements as public and private school students.
Who qualifies
Is a homeschooled high schooler
Lee College asks for proof of an accredited homeschool program and an up-to-date high school transcript, and your child meets the same dual credit rules as public and private school students.
Passes the TSIA2 placement test
Your child takes the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA2) in the reading and writing or math sections that the chosen courses require, after finishing the Pre-Assessment Activity.
Signs a partnership agreement
The parent or homeschool administrator signs a Homeschool Partnership Agreement with the homeschool name and the student's name.
Finishes high school on schedule
Dual credit status is tied to the projected graduation date on the Lee College application. After that date, your child pays the regular rate as a concurrent student.

Homeschool rules and statewide help in Texas
You do not have to file a homeschool notice to the state.
Texas sets these rules:
- Subjects: Instruction in Texas must include reading, spelling, grammar, math, and good citizenship.
- Testing: No routine annual homeschool standardized test is required. UIL participation and public-school transfer can have separate testing requirements.
- Records: Texas does not require homeschool records, but keeping them is recommended.
- Teachers: Texas does not require homeschool parents to hold a teaching certificate.
Texas also has an education savings account that home-educated students can use.
- The Texas Education Freedom Account (TEFA) awards $2,000 a year to selected home-education students for approved expenses. Applications for 2026-27 closed March 31, 2026; families who missed that cycle can join the 2027-28 interest list.
