Homeschool benefits and savings in Frisco
The Play Fund gives Frisco residents with financial need up to $1,000 a year per family toward Play Frisco classes, camps, sports, swim lessons, and recreation center memberships. The application asks for proof of residency and need, not school enrollment, so a homeschooled child applies the same way as any other Frisco child.
Who qualifies
Lives inside Frisco city limits
Show a current driver's license or state ID plus a utility bill, car insurance bill, or lease. Families inside Frisco ISD (Independent School District) boundaries but outside city limits count as nonresidents.
Shows financial need
Upload a letter of qualification from Frisco Family Services, proof of Frisco ISD free or reduced lunch, or another document showing government assistance in the past 12 months, such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits or a Medicaid benefit letter.
Names each person seeking help
You can apply as an individual or a family. List each person's name, age, date of birth, and relationship, and pick the program each one wants.
What it is worth
The limits come from the City of Frisco Play Fund page and the program policies on its online application.

Homeschool rules and statewide help in Texas
You do not have to file a homeschool notice to the state.
Texas sets these rules:
- Subjects: Instruction in Texas must include reading, spelling, grammar, math, and good citizenship.
- Testing: No routine annual homeschool standardized test is required. UIL participation and public-school transfer can have separate testing requirements.
- Records: Texas does not require homeschool records, but keeping them is recommended.
- Teachers: Texas does not require homeschool parents to hold a teaching certificate.
Texas also has an education savings account that home-educated students can use.
- The Texas Education Freedom Account (TEFA) awards $2,000 a year to selected home-education students for approved expenses. Applications for 2026-27 closed March 31, 2026; families who missed that cycle can join the 2027-28 interest list.

Questions parents ask
- Can one Play Fund award cover a full year of classes?
- Not for programs. Program funds expire at the end of the season and cannot be used later, so you reapply each season. Membership awards last a year.
- What if my child stops attending before the program ends?
- Missing more than a quarter of class days can cost your child future Play Fund help, and the city does not allow refunds or transfers on an award.
- What if the city cancels my child's program?
- You can pick a replacement program from the same season. Unused funds do not carry into the next season.
Turn support into your child’s next lesson
Camps and local activities give your child new interests to explore. Their discoveries can shape the examples and questions they study at home.
$149/month per child after the trial.
