Homeschool Sports Eligibility in Kentucky
No. Kentucky homeschoolers cannot play on public school teams in grades 9 through 12, because the state athletic association requires full-time enrollment in a member school.
Why homeschoolers cannot play
The Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) sets eligibility for every member school. It does not allow a homeschooled student who is not enrolled full time in a member school to play for that school in any sport or activity in grades 9 through 12, in the regular season or the postseason.
The rule belongs to the association, so no district or principal can make an exception, and Kentucky has no law that gives homeschoolers a right to play.
Games against homeschool teams
Since the 2018-19 school year, under House Bill 290, member schools may choose to play regular-season games against homeschool teams and individual homeschool students on the list the KHSAA approves.
Rules that decide participation
Enrolling ends homeschooling
The only way onto a school team is full-time enrollment at that school, which ends homeschooling for the year.

First step
If your teen wants school-level competition while homeschooling, ask a local homeschool team whether it is on the KHSAA's approved list for regular-season games.
