Homeschool Sports Eligibility in Maryland
No. Maryland's public school athletics rules require a student to be officially registered at and attending the member school, and no county may loosen that rule, so home-instructed students cannot play on public school teams.
Why homeschoolers cannot play
The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) runs public high school sports under state regulations. COMAR 13A.06.03.02 says students may represent only the school where they are registered and where they are expected to complete their graduation requirements.
COMAR 13A.06.03.01 lets a local school system adopt athletic rules that are stricter than MPSSAA's, but not looser ones. The rule covers every interscholastic contest, not only state playoffs.
Community leagues and clubs that are not school teams set their own rules for who can join.
Rules that decide participation
Enrolling ends home instruction
The only path onto a school team is full enrollment at that school, which ends home instruction.
