Homeschool Tax Deductions and Credits in Alabama
Yes. Alabama's CHOOSE Act education savings account pays $2,000 a year for each student in a home education program, up to $4,000 per family. Applications for 2027-28 open in January 2027, with no income limit.
How CHOOSE Act accounts work
CHOOSE Act Alabama is run by the Alabama Department of Revenue. Students at participating private schools receive $7,000, and students in a home education program receive the $2,000 amount.
Funds arrive on the ClassWallet platform beginning July 1 and pay approved providers and purchases, such as curriculum, tutoring, and technology up to $500. There is no reimbursement for purchases made outside ClassWallet.
Money left when a student leaves the program returns to the state. A family already in the program renews each year by the same deadline that new applicants meet.
Who qualifies

Income limit ends
For 2026-27, household income had to be at or below 300 percent of the federal poverty level. Starting in 2027-28, the program is open regardless of household income.
