Homeschool Tax Deductions and Credits in Kentucky

No. Kentucky has no state tax credit, deduction, or education savings account for homeschool costs, and the Kentucky Department of Education gives homeschools no financial assistance.

What exists instead

Kentucky treats a homeschool as a private school under KRS 159.030. The money the state does give homeschoolers is for college: the Dual Credit Scholarship for juniors and seniors, and Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES) awards earned from ACT or SAT scores.

Federal scholarship tax credit

In 2026, House Bill 1 opted Kentucky into the federal tax credit for donations to scholarship granting organizations and named the Secretary of State to report the state's participation and write its regulations. The scholarships come from private organizations, not the state, and whether they cover homeschool costs depends on federal law and those regulations.

Who qualifies

No Kentucky tax break or account pays for homeschooling, at any income.
