Homeschool Tax Deductions and Credits in Mississippi

No. Mississippi has no homeschool tax credit or deduction, and its Education Scholarship Account for students with an IEP cannot be used for home instruction.

Why the ESA excludes homeschools

Mississippi's Education Scholarship Account (ESA) for students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) pays up to $8,421 for 2026-27, but only toward an eligible school: a state-accredited special purpose or nonpublic school, or a nonpublic school serving the child's disability.

The law says an eligible school does not include a home instruction program, and the parent must show a letter of acceptance from an eligible private school. A homeschooled child can use the ESA only by enrolling in one of those schools.

The child's IEP has to be from within the past three years.

Who qualifies

  1. No home instruction

A home instruction program registered under section 37-13-91 does not count as an eligible school.
