Homeschool Tax Deductions and Credits in New York
No. New York has no state program that pays for home instruction, and districts cannot claim state aid for home-instructed students. Families pay for testing away from the public school and for any evaluator.
What districts may still offer
A district does not have to lend home-instructed students the textbooks, library materials, and software it must lend to private school students, but it may. It may also lend available items such as library books or microscopes.
Summer school is open to all residents, so a home-instructed child may enroll in a district's summer program on the same terms as other resident children.
The yearly assessment is the family's cost when the test is given away from the public school or when an evaluator writes a narrative.
