Homeschool Tax Deductions and Credits in Pennsylvania
No. Pennsylvania has no homeschool tax credit, deduction, education savings account, or voucher, and its scholarship tax credit programs cannot pay for home education.
What families pay for
Pennsylvania's personal income tax has no deduction for curriculum, supplies, or other homeschool costs. The family pays for curriculum, the required evaluator, and any alternative test.
Some help comes through the district. It must lend you, free, copies of its planned courses, textbooks, and other curriculum materials for your child's age and grade, and the statewide tests cost nothing.
Scholarship tax credits
Pennsylvania's Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC) give businesses tax credits for donations to scholarship and educational improvement organizations. The OSTC program says a scholarship shall not be awarded for enrollment in a home education program. It pays tuition and school fees at a participating nonpublic school or nonresident public school for students living in the boundaries of a low-achieving school, and a child who was previously homeschooled can apply to switch to one.
Who qualifies
Nothing for home education
No state program pays home education costs, so no homeschooling family qualifies or is ruled out.
Applying and paying
First step
Ask your district to lend the planned course outlines and textbooks for your child's grade, and budget the evaluator's fee each year.
Teaching that takes the work off you
We teach every subject starting at your child's level, grade the work as it is submitted, and keep the attendance, grades, and transcript, so homeschooling asks less of your time.
$149/month per child after the trial.
