Homeschool Tax Deductions and Credits in South Carolina
No. South Carolina has no homeschool funding program, and its Education Scholarship Trust Fund is closed to students taught at home under any of the three options.
Why the scholarship excludes homeschoolers
The Education Scholarship Trust Fund (ESTF) pays approved costs for eligible K-12 students. The state education department's guidance names all three home schooling options as ineligible: teaching under the district, under the state association, or under a home school association with 50 or more members.
A district also has no duty to provide textbooks to home school students, so families buy their own materials. Only students in district-approved programs may take the state assessments, so other families pay for any tests they give.
