Homeschool Tax Deductions and Credits in Virginia
No. Virginia has no tax credit, deduction, education savings account, or voucher for homeschool costs, and its home instruction law comes with no funding.
What exists instead
Families pay for materials and for each year's test or evaluation, which the home instruction law requires by August 1.
Virginia's related tax break is for college savings. A Virginia529 account owner under age 70 can deduct up to $4,000 a year per account from Virginia taxable income and carry a larger contribution forward to later years; an owner 70 or older can deduct the full amount contributed.
Later, a student who completed home instruction counts as having met high school graduation requirements for state-supported college financial aid.
