Homeschool Tax Deductions and Credits in West Virginia
Yes. From 2026-27, West Virginia's Hope Scholarship education savings account is open to existing homeschoolers, with an expected award of $5,435.62 per student, prorated by when you apply.
How the Hope Scholarship works
The Hope Scholarship lets families use the state portion of their child's education funding for tuition, homeschool curriculum, and other qualifying expenses. Any student enrolled in, or eligible to enroll in, a West Virginia public school in grades K-12 qualifies, and existing traditional homeschool students are eligible starting in 2026-27.
The amount follows state aid per public school pupil and changes every year. Starting in 2026-27, a quarter of the funds reach the account by August 15, October 15, January 15, and April 15.
A Hope student taught at home uses the Individualized Instructional Program pathway. You file a Hope Scholarship notice of intent with the county superintendent, not a homeschool notice, and a family leaving traditional homeschooling also submits a notice of termination.
Who qualifies
Student ID number
Your application includes a West Virginia Education Information System (WVEIS) ID number from your county board of education.
Notice of intent on file
The program funds the account only while the Hope notice is on file with your county board.
Yearly progress results
Each year you submit test results or a determination that your child is making academic progress, by June 8, to stay eligible.
Applying and paying
First step
Request a WVEIS ID from your county board, then apply on the Hope Scholarship portal before the next window closes.
What can rule you out
A child who returns to public school can no longer take part, and you must notify the program right away so it can freeze the account.
What you still pay
The 2026-27 award is the full amount for applications from March 2 to June 15, 2026, then 75 percent through September 15, 50 percent through November 30, and 25 percent from December 1, 2026 to February 28, 2027.
When to apply or file
As of October 2026, applications through November 30 receive 50 percent, and the last window closes February 28, 2027.
Teaching that takes the work off you
We teach every subject starting at your child's level, grade the work as it is submitted, and keep the attendance, grades, and transcript, so homeschooling asks less of your time.
$149/month per child after the trial.
