Homeschool benefits and savings in Princeton
The Princeton Recreation Department lowers the cost of summer programs, pool memberships, swim lessons, and its other programs for Princeton residents who show financial need, with the amount set when staff review your income and expenses. Homeschool families apply the same way as everyone else: send proof of residence, tax and pay records, and the program registration form together.
Who qualifies
Lives in Princeton
Only properties within the municipal boundary count, regardless of zip code. The 08540 zip code reaches into neighboring towns, so check the township's boundary map first.
Shows proof of residence
Every adult on the application shows a driver's license, utility bill, official lease, property tax bill, or another approved document.
Documents household income
Attach the first two pages of your most recent federal tax return and your three most recent pay stubs for each working parent or guardian, and list monthly income and expenses.
Registers for a program
A fully completed program registration form must be turned in at the same time as the aid application.

Homeschool rules and statewide help in New Jersey
No routine annual notice. NJDOE identifies notice obligations after an unappealed denial of district enrollment and a transfer form when withdrawing an enrolled high-school student. A district may request documentation when credible evidence suggests noncompliance.
New Jersey sets these rules:
- Subjects: Provide instruction academically equivalent to the local public school for a child of similar grade and attainment. District curriculum approval is not required.
- Testing: New Jersey does not require standardized testing for homeschoolers.
- Records: No prescribed homeschool portfolio or routine reporting. Evidence of equivalent instruction is useful if a district requests documentation based on credible evidence of a compulsory-education violation.
- Teachers: No state teacher certification required for a parent or other person teaching at home.

Questions parents ask
- Can a homeschool family apply for Princeton recreation assistance?
- Yes. The application is based on residency and household finances, not school enrollment. It asks for the grade each child enters in September 2026, which you fill in for your homeschooled child.
- We have an 08540 address. Do we qualify for Princeton assistance?
- Only if your home is inside Princeton's municipal boundary. The 08540 zip code stretches into several other towns, which are not eligible.
- Can we apply now and register later?
- No.
- Is there an online version?
- Yes. You can submit the application electronically through PandaDoc in English or Spanish, or hand it in on paper.
