Homeschool benefits and savings in Westfield
Westfield Recreation discounts its program fees and pool memberships by 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100% based on household income, so a family of four earning $48,225 or less pays nothing. The 2026 application does not ask about school enrollment, so homeschool families apply with their tax return and pay stubs.
Who qualifies
Meets the income chart
Westfield sets your discount from a standard household income chart by family size, from 100% off at the lowest incomes to 25% off at the highest.
Sends income documents
Include your most recent tax return, your last two pay stubs or unemployment stubs, and papers for any other income or aid such as SNAP, child support, or Social Security.
Applies before paying
Westfield will not accept an application after you have already paid for the program or membership.
Chooses a program with space
Aid goes only to programs with open spots, and programs with outside instructors or their own registration may not qualify.
What it is worth
Westfield's 2026 Financial Assistance Eligibility Table sets the discount by family size and household income; these rows are for four people.
- $48,225 or less
- 100% (pay 0%)
- $48,226 to $64,300
- 75% (pay 25%)
- $64,301 to $80,375
- 50% (pay 50%)
- $80,376 to $96,450
- 25% (pay 75%)
- Each extra household member
- Limits rise $8,250-$16,500
The application's signature page also says all applicants will be asked to pay a portion of the fees, which conflicts with the 100% tier, so ask the recreation director what you will owe.

Good to know
Eligibility is based on income, not school
Homeschool families can get Westfield assistance. The 2026 application is based on household income and size, not school enrollment. It asks whether your child gets free or reduced lunch, but that is one of several optional proofs of aid, not a requirement.
Lower incomes get up to 100% off
Savings depend on income and family size. For a family of three, 100% off applies at $39,975 or less and 25% off up to $79,950.
Apply for pool aid before renewals start
Pool membership applications open January 1 for the coming season. You must be a returning member or on the waitlist, and aid ends when memberships sell out, so apply before the renewal period starts.
Who to contact
The recreation director answers questions about the application and the documents to include.

Homeschool rules and statewide help in New Jersey
No routine annual notice. NJDOE identifies notice obligations after an unappealed denial of district enrollment and a transfer form when withdrawing an enrolled high-school student. A district may request documentation when credible evidence suggests noncompliance.
New Jersey sets these rules:
- Subjects: Provide instruction academically equivalent to the local public school for a child of similar grade and attainment. District curriculum approval is not required.
- Testing: New Jersey does not require standardized testing for homeschoolers.
- Records: No prescribed homeschool portfolio or routine reporting. Evidence of equivalent instruction is useful if a district requests documentation based on credible evidence of a compulsory-education violation.
- Teachers: No state teacher certification required for a parent or other person teaching at home.

Questions parents ask
- What if my child cannot finish the program?
- Tell the Recreation Department within three business days of the problem. Missing the attendance rule without reporting it means future requests can be denied.
- Which season does an application cover?
- The season you list for the program on that application. Westfield runs four seasons: winter is January to March, spring April to May, summer June to August, and fall September to December.
