Homeschool benefits: Two Rivers Public School District
Two Rivers Public School District lets a homeschooled student take up to two courses a semester and join athletics and extracurricular activities on the same terms as enrolled students. In elementary and middle school, the courses are non-academic and cost $100 per course each semester.
Who qualifies
Receives home-based private education
Board policies 9270 and 5140 cover students in a home-based educational program, commonly called homeschooling.
Lives in the district
Policy 5140 opens high school courses to homeschooled students who live in the Two Rivers district and meet the standards for admission to high school.
Fits the available space
High school courses depend on sufficient classroom space. Elementary and middle school courses must not burden students already enrolled.
Stays within two courses
The two-course cap per semester includes any course your child takes in another public school district.

Homeschool rules and statewide help in Wisconsin
You must file PI-1206 with DPI each year between July 1 and October 15. For withdrawal from public or private school after October 15, submit or update it on or before the date attendance ends. Update it when changing districts or the number of enrolled children.
Wisconsin sets these rules:
- Subjects: Provide at least 875 instructional hours each year and a sequentially progressive curriculum in reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, and health.
- Testing: Wisconsin does not require standardized testing for homeschoolers.
- Records: Keep copies of submitted PI-1206 reports; DPI retains them for seven years. Detailed instructional records are recommended, with no routine state submission required.
- Teachers: Wisconsin does not require a teaching certificate or degree to homeschool your own child.

Questions parents ask
- Can my younger child take a Two Rivers class?
- Yes, a non-academic one. Elementary and middle school homeschoolers can take up to two non-academic courses, at $100 per course per semester.
- Can my child play sports for Two Rivers?
- Yes. Policy 9270 lets homeschooled students play interscholastic athletics, including WIAA sanctioned sports, and join extracurricular activities to the same extent as enrolled students.
- Will the district bus my child to class?
- No. Policy 5140 makes transportation to and from school the parent's responsibility.
- What fees apply to sports and activities?
- The same fees enrolled students pay, including uniform, equipment, and instrument fees, if the district charges them.
Turn support into your child’s next lesson
Local classes cover the subjects they offer. We teach the remaining subjects, so a local class can stay part of the year without becoming the whole curriculum.
$149/month per child after the trial.
