Homeschool benefits and savings in Sheboygan County

A Mead Public Library Teacher Card lets a homeschool parent borrow up to 200 items at once with no late fees and ask library staff to pull a collection of books on a topic. Homeschool teachers who live in Sheboygan or a nearby community without its own library qualify by showing the Wisconsin homeschool form for the current school year. Other options include college classes and scholarships.

Mead Public Library homeschool teacher card

Who qualifies

  1. Teaches your own children

Mead's Teacher Card program covers public, private, and homeschool teachers. A homeschool parent applies as the teacher.

  2. Lives in the service area

Homeschool teachers must live in the City of Sheboygan or a surrounding community that has no local library.

  3. Shows the state homeschool form

Submit the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) form for the current school year as proof that you teach at home.

  4. Brings photo ID

Bring a photo ID with your application. The card can only be used by the teacher named on the account.

What the card gives you

The 200-item limit and fee rules come from Mead's teacher and institution card page; loan periods are the library's standard ones, since the card page lists none of its own.

Items out at once

Late fees
None
Children's books

New adult books

Lost or damaged items are billed to you, and items two weeks overdue count as lost and block the account, so track due dates on a large checkout.

How to get the card

  1. Before you go

    Get the application

Download the Teacher Card form from the library website or pick one up at any service desk.

  2. At the library

Show ID and the DPI form

Turn in the application with your photo ID and the current year's DPI homeschool form.

  3. During the year

    Request a curated collection

Ask Mead staff to gather books around a topic or theme for your lessons.

  4. Each year

    Renew the card

Update your contact information and show proof of educator status again, which for a homeschool teacher is the new year's DPI form.

Homeschool rules and statewide help in Wisconsin

You must file PI-1206 with DPI each year between July 1 and October 15. For withdrawal from public or private school after October 15, submit or update it on or before the date attendance ends. Update it when changing districts or the number of enrolled children.

Wisconsin sets these rules:

Questions parents ask

Will we pay late fees on 200 books with the Mead Teacher Card?
No. Mead no longer charges overdue fines, but an item two weeks late is treated as lost, and you are billed what the library paid for it.
Can my teenager use the Teacher Card?
No. The card works only for the teacher named on the account, so your child borrows on a personal library card.
Is the 2026 Lakeshore Promise cycle still open?
No. The page now takes applications from students graduating in 2027 and starting that summer or fall, with a March 1, 2027 deadline.
Does filing the FAFSA guarantee a Lakeshore Promise award?
No. Your aid results must identify you as Pell-eligible, and you must also satisfy graduation, admission, residence, and enrollment requirements.
