Homeschool benefits and savings in Pleasant Prairie
The Everyone Plays scholarship pays up to $150 toward a youth sports league, swim lesson, fitness class, or introductory program at the Pleasant Prairie RecPlex, one award per child each year. Children 17 and younger in Kenosha or Lake County qualify with written proof of financial hardship.
Who qualifies
Is 17 or younger
The scholarship is for youth activities, and applicants must be 17 or younger.

Residents of either county can apply. School enrollment is not one of the criteria, so a homeschooled child applies the same way as any other.

Youth sports leagues, swim lessons, youth fitness classes, and introductory programs qualify, including ice skating, hockey, baseball, and soccer.

Homeschool rules and statewide help in Wisconsin
You must file PI-1206 with DPI each year between July 1 and October 15. For withdrawal from public or private school after October 15, submit or update it on or before the date attendance ends. Update it when changing districts or the number of enrolled children.
Wisconsin sets these rules:
- Subjects: Provide at least 875 instructional hours each year and a sequentially progressive curriculum in reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, and health.
- Testing: Wisconsin does not require standardized testing for homeschoolers.
- Records: Keep copies of submitted PI-1206 reports; DPI retains them for seven years. Detailed instructional records are recommended, with no routine state submission required.
- Teachers: Wisconsin does not require a teaching certificate or degree to homeschool your own child.

Questions parents ask
- Is there an Everyone Plays deadline?
- No closing date is listed. Applications opened in March and are reviewed as they arrive, but the 2026 supply is limited, so applying early matters.
- What counts as proof of hardship?
- The village does not say. It asks for written documentation of financial hardship but lists no specific documents or income cutoff, so ask the RecPlex what it accepts before you submit.
- Can I use it for more than one child?
- Yes, but each child applies separately. The limit is one scholarship per child each year, up to $150 each.
Turn support into your child’s next lesson
Camps and local activities give your child new interests to explore. Their discoveries can shape the examples and questions they study at home.
